Salary: UH8 £45,163 pa with potential to progress to £56,921 pa by annual increments
Annual Leave: 35 days plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year
Location: College Lane Campus, University of Hertfordshire, Hatfield
The Senior Lecturer will provide high quality teaching, research and module leadership in Computer Science with expertise that will contribute to our Foundations and Software Engineering academic subject group with demonstrable experience and expertise in all of the following areas from a computer science perspective and at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels:
You will be expected to undertake, teaching and assessment, including module leadership in the advertised areas at all academic levels (Senior Lecturer). Learning experiences and assessments must be active and hands on for our students, and you will be expected to set and mark formative and summative assessments. Teaching will be across a range of modules, primarily focused on the advertised areas, but may also be across a broader range of computer science subjects.
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the planning, design and development of aims, objectives and learning outcomes on appropriate programmes. You will, as appropriate, undertake research and scholarly activities including contributing to funding applications and identifying funding opportunities. You will be required to attend and contribute to programme committee meetings and the Module Boards of Examiners. Part of the remit includes providing our students with academic and pastoral support and undertaking administrative duties.
You will possess excellent communication skills and have relevant teaching experience at HE level. An understanding of students’ prior learning experiences and how these might influence their current educational expectations with excellent organisation, planning and IT skills is essential. You will have the ability to contribute to curriculum development (Senior Lecturer), and an appreciation and understanding of the educational needs of students. You will have the ability to act as a responsible team member and develop productive working relationships with other members of staff, as well as flexibility and adaptability to workload and team requirements.
It is desirable that the chosen candidate has a track record of publication, external research funding, collaboration across disciplines and experience of different types of assessment and higher education quality assurance.
An undergraduate degree or equivalent level 6 qualification in a relevant discipline, as well as a postgraduate qualification i.e. Masters and/or PhD (completed or close to completion, e.g. has submitted final thesis) in Computer Science or equivalent or significant experience. A fellowship of Advance HE (formerly the Higher Education Academy) is desirable.
